Buzzword – The Herefordshire Beekeepers Association Newsletter.
newslettersHBKA newsletter July 2017
A lot of LAN activity this month, everyone, plus details of events past and forthcoming.
It’s late arriving I know (see front page for reason) but hopefully still in time to remind you about Bob’s Bee Day, not to mention the other forthcoming events listed on the cover and inside. You’ll also find LAN reports plus a great article on plants for honey bees by Roger Gill.
A report on the BBKA’s Annual Delegates’ Meeting, articles on the Imirie Shim (sounds like something out of Harry Potter!) and early forage plants for bees – plus LAN reports, Bob’s Beelines and a few other odds and ends – not to mention more appeals for new Committee members and officers….
The odd LAN report (new season gradually getting started!), articles on making your own hive and early forage plants plus appeals for new committee members, Secretary and Treasurer (why not give some time to helping to run your Association?)…
A report on last November’s “President’s Choice Evening”, a memoir of Ivor Lewis who sadly passed away recently, an article on early-flowering plants by the indefatigable Celia Davis, some front line experience of the Asian Hornet in France and some photography tips – plus Bob’s regular Beelines and a few advertisements.
Not a bad start to the year, I hope you’ll agree!
Last one of the year, everybody – sorry it’s a bit late. I’m afraid this one’s not very Christmassy once you get beyond the cover page – I’ll try to do better next year! – but at least you’ve got some December reading material to digest. There’s a report on East LAN’s recent “Brains Trust” evening, an article on Polynucs, an obituary for Ted Goodhead and a run-down on the latest developments at the HBKA Apiary.
Nothing next month but I’ll be putting something together for February 2017.
Have a very Happy Christmas
A rather less bulky Buzzword this month, everyone, in line with the general seasonal decline in activity of bees – and beekeepers too! Still the odd report or two though plus another article by Celia Davis that’s definitely worth reading.
Something for everyone this month – Asian Hornets, Festival of Bees & Honey and other event reports, coming soons, change of charitable status (Committee Corner – you absolutely must read this), a fascinating piece about pheromones, Bob’s bit, some adverts – and some rather depressing but not unexpected stop press news too.
This month’s Buzzword starts off with our forthcoming Festival of Bees & Honey and then goes on to cover LAN reports, honey harvesting workshops, internet trawling and the merits of (accidental) leave-alone beekeeping – a heady mix to be savoured at your leisure…
